Springdale UMC Leadership Board Minutes

July 29, 2015

Steven Grace opened the meeting on 7/29 at 7 pm, with the following present: Lynda Ambrose, Ruth & Jim Farmer, Dan McElderry, Diane Heick, Rhoda Barnhart and Pastor Kimberly.

1. A devotion with the theme—be ready to answer “I’ll go” rather than Moses’ “Send Aaron”–was led by Rhoda and followed by prayer.
2. Trustees
   1. Roof
      1. Roof fundraising update: In 2 months various projects: “Go Fund Me”, ($783.27) Pancake breakfast ($4,305) Dan Gafeller Memorial ($1,200), /Spaghetti luncheon ($967) & a $250 pledge, have raised $11,385.27. Thrivent generously donated the food supplies for the spaghetti luncheon.
   2. A fundraiser at HH Home Town days will be a hot-dog stand at noontime on Aug. 8

1. The current disbursements/Income report was not available so Steve & Jim will get the information-review it– and inform the congregation of how we stand compared to 2014.
2. Dec. 31 deadline regarding finances to be able to continue having a half-time pastor. àWill review the situation at the Sept 23 Board meeting & determine options we see.
3. Information Sharing: Pastor Kimberly plans to do a 3 week stewardship sermon series in the fall.   There was considerable discussion of some kind of Stewardship event to celebrate/consecrate and express appreciation for the community support for our roof fundraising. The idea that seemed most favored was to do a community celebration/dedication when the new roof is done—and invite donors to the event to express our thanks for their contributions. Also—to send notes of thanks to out-of state donors.
4. Cook books— Pastor Kimberly & Steve sold some at Annual Conf. But there are still more to sell to erase a $821 deficit. Ideas welcome.

SPRC

1. “Coffee & Devotions”—Rhoda reported from the Committee on Outreach, Mission & Evangelism (COME) that they have agreed to recruit lay people to do this outreach at Crestview on the 3^rd Monday of each month starting in September.

1. COME updates:
   1. Rhoda explained that the WB area churches are sponsoring free summer meals for kids the week of Aug. 17-21. SUMC will join with the WB Friends Church to provide a meal on Aug 20. Have 2 volunteers-need one more.
   2. Copies of information on 3 projects chosen for Thanksgiving Ingathering were distributed. Fliers & shopping lists for school kits will be on the Mission bulletin board soon.
2. Ruth reported on Summer Reading Program at Little Bear Campground: Increased participation each of the 3 Sundays so far. About 12 on previous Sunday- Some kids were read to—some kids read to adults & all enjoyed picking out books to take home.
3. Charge Conference forms were distributed. The form’s title was “Describing Current Reality” The group gave some responses and took forms home to jot down more ideas.
4. Ad Board for 2016. Since we’ve only tried this new Leadership Board for one year it was proposed that people remain in the same position they’ve held this year. All present agreed to the proposal.
5. Goal setting will remain on the agenda for the next meeting.Next meeting:
