MINUTES: Outreach/Mission/Evangelism (COME) Team of Springdale UMC

January 17, 2016

In attendance: Rhoda Barnhart (chair), Deborah Schoenfelder, Jim Schoenfelder, Margi Bowers, Jim Farmer, Jo Leighty, Rachel Richards, Pastor Kimberly Bowles.

Minutes of September 27, 2015 were distributed for review and accepted as written.

COME file drawer: Deborah went through the COME files in the church office. She removed completed worship attendance forms with individuals’ names on them that were dated 2009 and older, making sure that attendance numbers remained in the file.

The 2016 COME Ministry Spending Plan was approved by the Administrative Board at the December 2015 meeting.

2015 weekly worship attendance: 34 in Sunday worship; Total of 38 with the inclusion of Crestview worship once quarterly and Coffee and Devotions monthly.

MISSION

1. Special offerings

• Total giving for United Methodist Student Day (November 29, 2015): $76.00
• Selection of special offerings for 2016: The group chose One Great Hour of Sharing (March 6), Rural Life Sunday (May 15), and Christian Education Sunday (September 11) to support this year.
• Planning for One Great Hour of Sharing (OGHOS) was discussed. There are plenty of offering envelopes to use in the COME file. Rhoda shared several promotional ideas she found on the internet. Jim F. will download four short videos that are available for viewing; and Pastor Kimberly will work with Sunday School youth to see how they might like to be involved in promoting OGHOS.

2. 2016 Thanksgiving Ingathering giving by our faith community

• Number of LIT kits: 9 @ $11 each
• Number of school kits: 15 @ $11 each
• Women’s credit giving: $452
• Empty School Bags: 37 @ $3 each
• Shipping: $30 for UMCOR kits/ $18 for INP kits
• Total cash giving: $500 (listed as cash and checks)
• Total in-kind giving: $375 (LIT kits, school kits, school bags)
• Grand total giving: $875.00

EVANGELISM

1. The group discussed family movie nights for 2016 and decided to try a game night instead of movie night. Jo offered to coordinate refreshments for game night, and she will contact Lynda Ambrose to come up with a date and time for the first game night of the year (Lynda has a foosball table and a bumper pool table that can be transported to church).

OUTREACH

1. Contact persons for upcoming months have been arranged by Jo Leighty, Coordinator.
2. Jim S. updated the church brochure to include Facebook and blog information for SUMC.
3. Coffee and Devotions at Crestview is going well, with Rhoda, Jo, and Deborah leading devotions. Next meeting: April 24, 2016 following worship.
