Springdale UMC Leadership Board Minutes
January 20, 2016
1. Jim Farmer, in the opening devotion, challenged us to ACT with haste when we feel God is expecting us to do something. God doesn’t call—only when it is convenient for us—HE knows where we fit into the bigger picture.
—Steven Grace provided copies of the agenda to those present:Lynda Ambrose, Ruth Farmer, Jim Farmer, Rick Mayhew, Rhoda Barnhart, and Pastor Kimberly Bowles.
2.Trustees:
a. Roof—Now scheduled for spring.
b. Other—Lights in Upper Room—Dan McEldery priced new fixtures and decided (in light of a tight budget) to just purchase new bulbs which do seem brighter.
Stewardship:
a. Current situation (giving trends/expenses)
I. Disbursement/income: 2015 vs. 2014– The disbursements exceeded income by about $2,400.
II. The gap is much less than in 2014 which is encouraging, & led to further discussion on how we might generate more participation in our outreach efforts & perhaps additional giving. We had considered various options last year regarding the future of SUMC.
Jim Farmer moved we continue for 2016 supporting our pastor as we have been doing; seconded by Rick, the motion carried.
b. Budget—
I. Copies of the 2016 budget were distributed. The spending plan
totals $57,896 which is less than budgeted for 2015–by $1,523.35
II. SUMC was included in Rev. Hahn’s will with a gift of stock.
Lynda Ambrose moved that Springdale UMC accept the gift from Rev. Hahn’s Will. Ruth Farmer seconded the motion which carried.
The stock may be worth about $5,000. Members are invited to join the discussion on Sunday, Jan.31, after worship of how best to use the gift. Pastor Kimberly and Rhoda will send notes of appreciation to Eunice Mennenoh.
SPRC met previous to the board meeting.
a. The main item of discussion was a week of vacation around spring break for Pastor Kimberly. The exact dates are not finalized. SPRC will arrange for a guest speaker.
Next meeting: March 30, 2016—6:30p.m.(SPRC); 7 p.m. (full board).
Steve shared a Psalm for the closing prayer.
Respectfully submitted—Rhoda Barnhart, Secretary
